What is Gates of Olympus 1000?
Gates of Olympus 1000 is Pragmatic Play's 2023 sequel to its 2021 hit. It went live at selected casinos on and everywhere else on . Zeus still stands beside a 6x5 grid, any 8 or more matching symbols anywhere on the screen pay, and winning symbols tumble away to make room for new ones.
The name says what changed. Zeus's multiplier orbs now reach 1,000x instead of 500x, and the max win rises from 5,000x to 15,000x the bet. Everything else you'd notice on the screen is the same: the nine symbols and their pays, the Zeus scatter, 15 free spins with a running total multiplier, the Ante Bet and the 100x bonus buy.
It's also one of the most played slots online: Stake's Spin Charts listed it as the most-wagered slot on that casino in the second quarter of 2025. If you know Gates of Olympus, you already know how to play it; what you need to know is how much harder it swings.

Read from the rules screens of both games at a €2 or $2 bet. The original's "Medium" label contradicts its own five-bolt meter and its launch pitch as "highly volatile"; see our original review.
So which one should you play? The total return over time is the same: 96.50% in the top version of both. What changes is how that return is spread. The 1000 version moves part of the payout into rare, bigger results, which means more ordinary sessions end below where they'd end on the original. If a 5,000x ceiling already feels out of reach, the original is the calmer choice. If the top end is the reason you play, the 1000 version is the one built for it.
Symbols and paytable
The paytable is unchanged from the original. Four golden relics sit at the top: the crown pays 10x, 25x or 50x your bet for 8–9, 10–11 or 12 or more anywhere on the grid, followed by the hourglass, the ring and the chalice. Five gems fill the bottom, from the red one down to the blue one at 0.25x to 2x.
The Zeus scatter pays 3x, 5x or 100x for 4, 5 or 6 anywhere and triggers the free spins. There's no Wild. Wins from different symbols on the same spin are added together, and each tumble pays its own wins before the multipliers apply.

At a $2 bet the rules list the crown at $100, $50 and $20, the blue gem at $4, $1.50 and $0.50, and the scatter at $200, $10 and $6. That's the same as the original, symbol by symbol.
Multipliers up to 1,000x
Multiplier orbs land on any reel, in any spin or tumble, in the base game and in the free spins. When the tumbling ends, the values of all orbs on the screen are added together and the total win of the sequence is multiplied by that sum. Orbs on a spin that doesn't win pay nothing.

How rare is 1,000x?
Pragmatic Play doesn't publish how often each value appears, and nobody outside the studio can tell you. What we can say is that the RTP didn't go up when 1,000x was added, so the top orbs have to be very rare. BigWinBoard reports that in four hours of bonus buys the biggest single orb it saw was 20x. Treat 1,000x like the max win: possible on any spin, not something to plan around.
Worked example. You bet $1. Ten purple gems pay 1.2x, so $1.20. A 1,000x orb lands in the same spin. When the tumbling stops, the win becomes 1,200x: $1,200.
Same spin with a 2x orb: $2.40. Same orb with no win: $0. That gap is the whole game in one line.
Free spins and the total multiplier
Four or more Zeus scatters anywhere trigger 15 free spins, after the scatter win of 3x, 5x or 100x is paid. Three or more scatters during the round add 5 spins, with no limit on retriggers. The rules say special reels are in play during the round.
The running total
This works exactly as in the original. A total multiplier sits to the left of the grid. Whenever an orb lands on a spin that wins, its value is added to the total, and the whole total multiplies that spin's win. The total never resets during the round, so an early big orb makes every later winning spin with an orb bigger too.
A winning spin with no orb pays its normal value, without the total. That's the rule players most often get wrong: the total only works on spins where a new orb arrives with a win.
Why the 1000 version swings harder
With a 1,000x orb in the pool, one lucky spin can lift the total by more than a typical whole round of the original. It works the other way too: the free spins happen just as often, and most rounds still end with a total in single or low double figures. The average stays the same; the spread gets wider.

Worked example. Bet $1. Spin 2 wins 1.5x with a 100x orb: the total is 100x, so the spin pays 150x. Spin 6 wins 2x with a 25x orb: the total grows to 125x and the spin pays 250x. Spin 11 wins 0.5x with no orb and pays 0.5x.
With the 3x for four scatters, the round returns 403.5x: $403.50. A round like this is far above average. Many rounds pay less than the 100x a bonus buy costs.
Ante Bet and bonus buy
Ante Bet: +25% for twice the chance
The Ante Bet, labeled "Double chance to win feature" on the panel, works as a choice of bet multiplier. At the standard 20x, the buy is available. At 25x, your spin costs 25% more ($1.25 instead of $1), more scatters are placed on the reels, and the rules say the chance of triggering free spins naturally is doubled. If the doubling is exact, that's about 1 in 224 spins instead of 1 in 448. The bonus buy is locked while it's on.
The rules give the Ante Bet the same 96.50% RTP as normal play. It doesn't make the game better or worse over time; you pay more per spin to see the bonus more often.
Bonus buy: 100x, 4 scatters guaranteed
Where it's allowed, you can buy the free spins for 100x the bet: $20 at $0.20, $100 at $1. The rules add a line the original's don't have: when you buy, 4 scatters are guaranteed on the triggering spin. That means the buy always starts with the minimum 3x scatter win and 15 spins, with a small chance of the 5 or 6 scatter pays on top.
The buy's RTP is 96.49%, one hundredth of a point below normal play: about $0.01 per $100. It isn't a better deal, just a faster one. Bonus buys are switched off in the UK and the Netherlands. Set the bet so that 100x is money you can lose in full: plenty of bought rounds return less than half the price.

Gates of Olympus 1000 doesn't reinvent anything, and that's its strength. The rules you already know stay exactly as they were; one extra orb value and a higher cap change what a single free spins round can become. The 96.50% top RTP holds for normal play and the Ante Bet, and the rules screen is open about every number.
The trade-off is volatility. The bonus is no more frequent than in the original, and most rounds pay modest amounts while the 15,000x headline stays a long shot.
